The 1928 Sheboygan Theatre is a very fine and rare example of an “atmospheric” movie theatre. Converted into twin movie theatres in the 1980s, the theater closed in the 1990s and stood vacant for a decade until the community banded together to save and restore this downtown landmark. The “A Night in a Garden of Old Spain” themed interior was restored including its decorative walls, columns, and balconies; ornate wrought iron sconces and chandeliers; and night sky ceiling with twinkling star lights. Expansion of the stage, orchestra pit, dressing rooms, and green room and upgraded seating and toilet rooms transformed the venue into a cutting-edge 21st century performing arts center.
